Simon is a Commercial and Privacy lawyer who is equally at home among the minutiae of a contract and the broad sweep of a strategic discussion. He helps big businesses to retain their edge, small businesses to mature, and people of all kinds to professionalise their ideas.

Since 2002 he has developed a reputation for having a sharp eye for written detail, precise legal knowledge, the knack of articulating difficult concepts clearly, and an informal and approachable manner.

He has a background in advising communications businesses, and has added to this in recent years by helping clients in manufacturing, retail, recruitment, mining, property and many other sectors. For those who use him, he is the first port of call for any number of issues.

Before co-founding Baker Skelly, Simon was at Laytons, a City firm. He joined them in 2016, became head of the Commercial team in 2017 and head of the enlarged Corporate and Commercial team in 2018.

Simon’s recent work includes:

  • helping a well-known retailer deal with a major data breach

  • drafting a collaboration agreement between a long-established gaming business and a media PLC

  • drafting bespoke contracts for a fast-growing property start-up developing a new service

  • helping an international recruitment business create a suite of bespoke agreements and privacy documents

  • advising a luxury hotel on the compliance aspects of an advertising campaign

  • negotiating major communications contracts with global banks, manufacturers and brands

  • advising on influencer terms, publishing agreements and other media-related contracts

  • negotiating IP and other contractual rights in emerging technology for a business disrupting the clean-energy sector

  • helping deal with often hostile Subject Access Requests

Simon also advises clients on terminating sizeable contracts and launching into new areas. He frequently delivers training on contractual and privacy topics.
